Bookmap

bookmap.com

Order-book software that draws resting limit orders as a liquidity heatmap with executed volume on top, for futures, stock and crypto order-flow traders.

What it is

Bookmap replaces the usual candlestick chart with a heatmap of the limit order book over time, redrawn at up to 40 frames per second, with executed trades shown as volume dots on top. The idea is to see where large resting orders sit, when they are pulled and how aggressive buyers and sellers interact with them. It runs as a desktop application, with a separate browser version (Bookmap Web), and connects to brokers and data feeds for futures, US stocks and crypto exchanges.

The free Digital plan shows one symbol, with real-time data from Binance, Bitfinex and 20+ other crypto exchanges but only delayed US stocks and futures. Digital Plus adds three symbols, simulated crypto trading, some advanced add-ons and an order-flow course. The Global plans are the ones for futures and stock traders: they connect to BookmapData, dxFeed and Rithmic, show 10 (Global) or 20 (Global Plus) symbols and add replay, multibook and the extended order book.

Budget for market data separately. Bookmap states that real-time futures and stock data are not included in any software plan: for example, BookmapData futures cost $34 a month per exchange after a $17 first month, Nasdaq stocks $59 a month, and professional users pay extra exchange fees.

Strengths

  • Shows resting liquidity over time, which standard charts do not
  • Free real-time crypto order books from many exchanges
  • Lifetime licence option on the Global plans
  • Replay mode for reviewing sessions tick by tick

Limitations

  • Real-time futures and stock data cost extra on every plan
  • The free plan shows only one symbol and delayed stocks and futures
  • Futures and stock connectivity requires a Global plan at $49/mo or more
  • Order book data can include orders that are placed and pulled quickly, so displayed liquidity is not a commitment to trade

Good fit for

  • Futures scalpers who trade off order-book behaviour
  • Crypto traders who want free real-time depth visualization
  • Day traders studying how large orders and aggressive volume interact

Look elsewhere if

  • Swing traders and investors who work from daily charts
  • Options traders looking for options flow rather than order-book depth
