Wealth-Lab
wealth-lab.com
Windows platform for portfolio-level backtesting and trading, with drag-and-drop building blocks or C# code, walk-forward validation and broker execution.
What it is
WealthLab (the current version is WealthLab 8) is a Windows desktop application for designing, backtesting and running systematic strategies. Its focus is testing at the portfolio level rather than one symbol at a time: a strategy runs across a whole list of stocks with position sizing, and index-based tests can use historical index constituents so that delisted and removed companies are not silently left out. Walk-forward optimization is there to check whether a strategy survives on data it was not tuned on.
Strategies can be built from drag-and-drop building blocks without code, or written in C# with full access to the API. Data comes from built-in and third-party providers, and custom data can be imported from files or databases, including for exchanges outside the US. For live trading, WealthLab connects to Interactive Brokers, TradeStation, Schwab, Tradier, Alpaca and several crypto exchanges, and supports paper trading.
All subscriptions include the full platform. The Premium Annual plan adds every extension WealthLab itself develops; on the other plans those extensions are bought individually. A lifetime licence is also sold. There is a 14-day free trial with no credit card, and one subscription can run on two computers.

Strengths
- Portfolio-level testing with historical index constituents, which most retail backtesters do not offer
- Both no-code building blocks and full C# programming in one tool
- Walk-forward optimization for checking results out of sample
- Direct automated trading with several US brokers and crypto exchanges
- A lifetime licence option for traders who prefer not to subscribe
Limitations
- Windows 10 and 11 only; there is no Mac or web version
- WealthLab's own extensions are sold separately unless you take Premium Annual or the lifetime licence
- Advanced use means writing C#, a steeper path than point-and-click tools
- It is a strategy development tool, not a discretionary charting or research platform
Good fit for
- Systematic swing and position traders testing rules across many stocks
- Traders comfortable with C# who want full control over strategy logic
- Traders who want to run tested strategies automatically at Interactive Brokers, Schwab or Tradier
Look elsewhere if
- Mac users or anyone who wants a browser-based tool
- Discretionary chart traders who do not plan to backtest rules
