Composer
composer.trade
No-code platform for building, backtesting and automatically trading rule-based stock and ETF strategies, with an AI assistant and a free Starter plan.
What it is
Composer lets you describe a trading strategy in plain language or assemble it in a visual editor, backtest it against history and a benchmark, and then have it trade automatically in a brokerage account held with Composer. Strategies, which Composer calls symphonies, are built from weights, if/then conditions and filters, so a rule such as "hold the three strongest sector ETFs by 20-day return unless the S&P 500 is below its 200-day average" needs no code. Taxable accounts, traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs are supported. The site now presents itself as Composer by SoFi.
The plans differ in how many strategies you can automate and how large they can be, not in backtesting. Starter is free and automates one strategy of up to 200 nodes; Advanced at $10 a month automates five, up to 350 nodes; Pro at $384 a year ($32 a month) automates up to 500 strategies of up to 10,000 nodes and adds API access, manual overrides and trade timing closer to the close. Building and backtesting are unlimited on every plan.
Before you fund an account, understand that Composer is also your broker: Composer Securities is a FINRA and SIPC member, with Alpaca Securities and Apex Clearing carrying accounts and handling execution. You cannot run these automations on an outside brokerage account. A backtest shows how rules would have behaved in the past and can easily be overfitted to that history.

Strengths
- Turns rule-based strategies into automated trading without code
- Unlimited backtesting on the free plan
- Works in IRAs and Roth IRAs, where rebalancing has no immediate tax cost
- Low subscription prices compared with most automated trading tools
Limitations
- Automation only runs in a Composer brokerage account, not at your existing broker
- The free plan automates a single strategy of up to 200 nodes
- Automated trades are timed around the market close for periodic rebalancing, so it does not suit intraday trading
- API access requires the yearly Pro plan
Good fit for
- Non-programmers who want systematic ETF and stock rotation strategies
- Investors who want rules-based rebalancing in an IRA
- Traders who want to backtest simple ideas quickly before committing money
Look elsewhere if
- Day traders who need intraday execution
- Traders who want to keep their existing broker and only backtest; a standalone backtester fits better
