Schwab Learning Center

schwab.com

Charles Schwab's free education hub of articles, videos and podcasts, plus 30+ live Schwab Coaching webcasts a week on trading and investing.

What it is

Schwab's Insights and Education section, reached at schwab.com/learn, is where the broker publishes its research commentary and teaching material. New articles, videos and podcast episodes appear most days, covering market commentary, investing basics, retirement, trading and wealth management. Beginners have a dedicated New to Investing path, and clients who log in get curated learning paths through the same material.

The podcasts are a good way in. Schwab Market Update is a short morning briefing on market news and stocks to watch; On Investing looks behind the economic headlines; Choiceology, hosted by Mark Riepe, deals with the behavioural biases behind financial decisions; and WashingtonWise, hosted by Mike Townsend, covers policy news from Washington that affects investors. All are on the major podcast apps.

For traders, the stronger resource is Schwab Coaching: more than 30 live webcasts each week on technical and fundamental analysis, trading platforms such as thinkorswim, options and portfolio management, streamed on YouTube with a library of recordings, plus virtual workshops and in-person events. Schwab says clients and non-clients alike are welcome. The material is free, though it naturally leans on Schwab's own platforms and accounts.

Strengths

  • Large volume of free material from a major US broker
  • More than 30 live webcasts a week, with recordings
  • Several podcasts for learning on the go
  • Covers both long-term investing and active trading

Limitations

  • Platform lessons centre on Schwab's own tools, such as thinkorswim
  • Curated learning paths are shown to logged-in Schwab clients
  • No structured course with a set curriculum and progress tracking for non-clients
  • Written from a broker's perspective, so it is not independent of Schwab's products

Good fit for

  • New investors who want a free, broad introduction
  • Schwab and thinkorswim users learning their platform
  • Traders who like learning from live webcasts

Look elsewhere if

  • Traders who want an independent course not tied to one broker
  • Anyone looking for a structured certification
